Soul Vision

Fusing music, spoken word, and hip hop, BAD REP’s Schooled explores the challenges and trajectories of the students, teachers, and administrators of Camino Valley High School, an underserved school in Central California. Schooled transports you back to 2006 — a time when social media was only in its beginning stages, before touch screens became the mainstream, before online news headlines occupied our minds, to an institution where standards are the mission, within a class system that sows the seeds of division. The result is a shaken microcosm, a poetic journey where each individual confronts what it means to have academic integrity.

ABOUT BAD REP THEATRE

BAD Repertory Theatre is a performance group based in the San Francisco Bay Area, founded by alumni of UC Berkeley's Theatre Rice after a night of feelings spurred by moderate drinking.  BAD Rep Theatre is dedicated to providing artists -- predominantly, but not exclusively of Asian American heritage—with a collaborative space to create original, multi-disciplinary work. They sold out the run of their inaugural show in 2015 and have performed in Kearny Street Workshop's APAture Festival, Oaklands Flight Deck, The Live Oak Theater in Berkeley, and for corporations such as Box and Salesforce. ABOUT ALAN UY & BRIAN ADRIAS

Brian Adrias and Alan Uy were both involved in UC Berkeley's Pilipino Cultural Night as writers and performers. Brian was known for his spoken word poetry and Alan for his writing and directing three plays for PCN. Outside of the PCN circuit, Brian was rooted in student-run publication {m}aganda Magazine, a Filipino-American literary arts publication, and would occasionally perform at open mics, while Alan was in Theatre Rice, a theater group on campus. The duo joined BAD REP Theatre in 2017, where they collaboratively wrote and directed Night of Quiet Stars, a one-act piece about a young Pilipino man navigating gentrification in San Francisco and his mothers deteriorating memory.
