“I was much more interested in the gray...I wanted all three [characters] to have positive and negative attributes, and make them as human as possible, and likable. I think it’s important to realize that likable people are still capable of horrible things.”
—Rachel Bublitz, By Kenneth Jones

We think of consent as “yes” or “no” but what about all the moments in between?

Z Space presents the world premiere of a groundbreaking new play, RIPPED, about a freshman at UC Berkeley who wakes up in someone else’s bed. She needs to piece together how and why she got there. Did she want this?

RIPPED was selected for Z Space’s Problematic Play Festival in 2018, due to its history of sparking heated debate when it was read at other theaters throughout the country. It has never been fully staged and shown to an audience. Until Now.

“The narrative is intentionally, well, ripped so as to show both action and repercussion…. If I were to just talk straight about the plot it would undermine the complexity of the story and characters therein. There are parts of this story you’ll only get if you see it yourself.”
—Charles Lewis, Thinking Man’s Idiot

Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired

Audio Description Logo

For blind and visually impaired audience members, Z Space partners with Gravity Access Services to offer live audio description and haptic access tours for the June 12th performance of Ripped.

Audio description is a live audio track spoken by a professional audio describer to audience members with visual impairments through a wireless headset system. It provides clear and engaging descriptions of the meaningful visual details of a performance. Haptic access tours (20-30 minutes) are a live pre-show tour that allows patrons to experience—thru touch and their own movement— the space, performers, costumes and objects in addition to key movement elements in the performance.

For more information to book a spot in a Haptic Access Tour or to reserve a headset please call Z Space’s Box Office at (415) 626-0453 x102 or email boxoffice@zspace.org.

Z Space’s production of Ripped is supported in part by a grant from the Venturous Theater Fund of the Tides Foundation.
